BGCK Marketing Intern, Lane Nunier, provided some words of wisdom for our Club members: "College is not only a learning experience, it is THE experience. When talking to a college grad of any age, the best days of their lives always end up being during their time in college. It does not matter if it is a big school, small school or anything in between. You will learn skills that will help you succeed in the future. Not only will you learn great amounts of knowledge, you will have the time of your life. You will meet friends you will keep for life and create unbreakable bonds. College is an experience that I will never forget and I encourage everyone to go. Just remember, try hard in school and make good grades. By putting forth the effort now, you will be rewarded for life."

The Youth of the Year program celebrates youth who have overcome enormous odds and demonstrate exceptional character and accomplishments. Andrew S. competed at the Kentucky Youth of the Year Competition February 28th in Frankfort, KY. The winner of the state competition goes on to compete at the Midwest Region Youth of the Year. The 5 regional winners will advance to the national competition. Youth of the Year honorees are shining examples and living proof that great futures start at the Boys & Girls Clubs. Boys & Girls Clubs of America's Youth of the Year recognition is the highest honor a Club member can achieve.

"I really enjoyed being in Frankfort for the Youth of the Year competition. The speeches were really good and allowed everybody the opportunity to learn a little bit more about fellow youth. The dinner was incredible and the guest speaker spoke from the heart and said what he was feeling. The bowling trip was enjoyable as well. It was a time for the teens to get together and talk to each other about their Clubs and their lives. It was an experience that I am very thankful to have had and the memories will last a life time."   Andrew S. (Ed Endres Club member and BGCK Youth of the Year)

"When I come to the club, I do homework and then I go play basketball. The only time I have time to play is after I do my homework. Mr. Ritchie helps me finish my homework so we can go play basketball. I really like to play basketball and Mr. Ritchie helps me practice. Mr. Ritchie also helps me whenever I have trouble with something. I know that I can count on Mr. Ritchie and he is a great guy."

"Ms. Melissa is a wonderful person. She is so funny and makes me laugh every day. We have a lot of fun together and she helps me with a lot of stuff. Every day she helps me with my homework and we talk about my day. Then after we are done with my homework we do fun stuff like color. Sometimes she finds stuff to print out and color and sometimes we just make up stuff to color. I know that I can go to Ms. Melissa for anything."

"Mr. David is a fun guy to hang out with. We play basketball and video games every day. He is a very great person and we have fun whenever we hang out. Mr. David helps me with my homework every day when I get to the club. After we are done with my homework, Mr. David plays basketball with me or sometimes we play video games. I have a good time hanging out with him."

BGCK was recently approved as a UPS Road Code site! This innovative safe driving program for youth between the ages of 13 and 18. UPS developed UPS Road Code in 2009 as a preventative measure to help teens learn safe driving habits before they start driving. Motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of death for American teenagers. According to the National Highway Safety Administration, in the last decade, over 68,000 teens have died in car crashes. Sixty-five percent of teen passenger deaths occur when another teenager is driving.

Club members will go through a unique 4-week teen safe driving course and have hands-on-learning experiences using a computer simulator. This fun and educational program brings UPS’ safe-driving expertise to our teenagers. This fun and educational program brings UPS’ safe-driving expertise to our teenagers. The program is set to take off in February.
